The CASE Association Annual Meeting Awards

 “Cheesy trophies” 

  The CASE Journal publishes high quality peer-reviewed and classroom-tested teaching cases that provide superior support for instructors.  Our cases and instructor’s manuals are rigorously peer-reviewed, revised by the authors and reviewed again (sometimes multiple times) before a formal acceptance is granted.  Instructors and students can be sure that a TCJ case will provide an engaging and worthwhile learning experience.

 
  The Emerald Best Case Award honors one case per publication year  as an outstanding example of excellence in a teaching case and its associated instructor’s manual.  The winner of the award receives a $1,000 prize provided by our publisher, Emerald Publishing.

Our Process

Cases are nominated for this award by the TCJ Editor.  A committee of three members then reviews the cases and instructor’s manuals to determine the finalists and winner.  This year’s committee included Miriam Weismann, The CASE Association President, Peggy Naumes, CASE Fellow and former TCJ editor, and Rebecca Wilson-Mah, last year’s Emerald Best Case Award winner.  Thanks to all for your hard work!

Three Finalists

  • “Uber:  aggressive management for growth,” by Brett P. Matherne and Jay O’Toole both of Georgia State University (published in TCJ (13,4).
  • “Expat pay and compensation: fair or not fair?,” by David Desplaces, College of Charleston and Steven Congden, University of Hartford (published in TCJ (13, 2).
  • “House of Bounce,” by Tod Cox and Ram Subramanian both of Stetson University (published in TCJ (13,6).

The Winner

On Friday, May 4 at the Eastern Academy of Management/The CASE Association Annual Meeting in Providence, Rhode Island, we were pleased to recognize David Desplaces and Steven Congden as this year’s winner for their case “Expat pay and compensation: fair or not fair?”

Congratulations to David and Steve!  They will receive an award plaque and the $1,000 prize.
  Reviewer of the Year Award

TCJ reviewers work to ensure that the cases and instructor’s manuals we publish meet our high quality standards.  Our reviewers provide extensive and thoughtful feedback to guide authors in improving their cases for publication.  Without good reviewers, the quality of TCJ would suffer.

It is a pleasure to recognize the good work of our reviewers with the Reviewer of the Year Award.  The award was presented to the 2017 reviewer with the highest score on review quality, timeliness and frequency of reviews.

We are pleased to recognize Ken Levitt of Frostburg State University as this year’s winner of the Reviewer of the Year Award.  Ken will receive a reward plaque recognizing his efforts.  Congratulations, Ken!
